Softball Preview: Coastal Academy Stingrays vs. Olympian Eagles

Coastal Academy has won five straight games at home, while Olympian has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Stingrays will welcome the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Coastal Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Coastal Academy proved they can win big last Monday (they won by seven) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Vista 11-9.

Therese Frazer made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off 11 hits. Frazer was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with six RBI and one double. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Coastal Academy got a massive performance out of Ava Alvarez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Delylah Ordman, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Olympian had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They never let the Islanders get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory.

Not much got past Alexandra Perez, who gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Coronado off the board. Perez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jacqui De Murguia was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double. Gabriella Mendiola was another key player, earning two runs and two stolen bases.

Olympian is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-12-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Coastal Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
