Wilkes Central comes up short despite Anna Rollins' dominant performance

Recap: Wilkes Central Eagles vs. Community School of Davidson Spartans

After flying high against the Langtree Charter Lions on Thursday, the Wilkes Central Eagles came back down to earth. Wilkes Central's tough 58-37 loss to Community School of Davidson on Friday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Wilkes Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 376th, while Community School of Davidson is ranked 63rd).

When it comes to explaining why Wilkes Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Anna Rollins. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with four steals. Rollins scored a full 54.1% of Wilkes Central's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Regan Downey continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Community School of Davidson, scoring 23 points. Downey also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Tyler Baughan was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Wilkes Central's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Community School of Davidson, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.

Wilkes Central won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against South Iredell at 4:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. South Iredell is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. Community School of Davidson and North Iredell will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. North Iredell will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
