Volleyball Game Preview: Firestone Falcons vs. Walsh Jesuit Warriors

The Firestone Falcons will square off against the Walsh Jesuit Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Firestone's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Walsh Jesuit has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Firestone won the last time they faced St. Edward, and Tala Paing did his part to make sure it happened again. The Falcons won by a set and slipped past the Eagles 3-2 with plenty of help from Paing, who had 35 assists and 15 digs. He is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 12 or more in each of the last six games he's played.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (115-108) Firestone actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The match finished with set scores of 26-28, 30-28, 12-25, 25-21, 15-13.

Firestone's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sir?Vontaye Wooldridge-Johnson, who had 14 digs and four assists. Those four assists gave Wooldridge-Johnson a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Walsh Jesuit came up short against St. Ignatius on Tuesday, falling 3-0.

The final score came out to 25-16, 25-13, 25-16.

Firestone is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Walsh Jesuit, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-8.

Firestone was able to grind out a solid win over Walsh Jesuit in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 2-0. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
