Baseball Recap: Southwood Knights vs. Southern Wells Raiders
Southwood had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-5 to make it nine. They came up short against the Southern Wells Raiders, falling 11-5. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Southwood saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dalton Barney, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another was Eli Shelhamer, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Southern Wells, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. Considering they have won five games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Southern Wells' side, Robby Freimuth was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that Freimuth has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Slusher, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Coming up, Southwood will face off against Rochester at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Zebras' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Southern Wells, they will take on Adams Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
