Basketball Recap: North Newton Comes Up Short

North Newton lost against West Central back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The North Newton Spartans were outmatched by the West Central Trojans and fell 42-6. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-3.

They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Jaylynn Lucas and Piper Ivey, who each put up two points. Rylynn Klemz held things down on the boards with five rebounds.

Leading West Central to victory were Kailee Bishop and Madisyn DeMoss. Bishop posted 11 points, while DeMoss put up ten points in addition to four blocks and three steals. DeMoss has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last 17 times she's played. Sydney Mellon was another key player, putting up two points along with five boards and four steals.

North Newton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for West Central, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-6.

North Newton has already played their next match (against North White), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. West Central will face off against Pioneer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
