Baseball Recap: Russell County Lakers vs. Whitley County Colonels

After flying high against Glasgow last Monday, Russell County came back down to earth. The Russell County Lakers fell 8-4 to the Whitley County Colonels on Tuesday. Russell County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Whitley County apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2021.

Carter Stapp made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with a triple, two RBI, and a run.

On Whitley County's side, they got a great performance from Bradyn Bargo as he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, EJ Allen was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was RJ Osborne, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Russell County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 20-9 record this season. As for Whitley County, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 21-9.

Russell County will be playing at home against South Warren at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Whitley County, they will head out on the road to take on Somerset at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Somerset: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Whitley County has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
