The Cienega Bobcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Catalina Foothills Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cienega will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Cienega came out on top against Chaparral on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Bobcats had just enough and edged out the Firebirds 7-6.
The team relied heavily on JAMES LINZMEYER, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was ANTHONY MONTEZ, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Catalina Foothills, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They put the hurt on Lake Havasu with a sharp 14-4 win on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won 13 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Ganon Dwyer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Catalina Foothills let Bryce Weege and Nate Shoemaker run wild. Weege went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Shoemaker went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Shoemaker has posted since back in February.
Catalina Foothills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Havasu only posted an OBP of .280.
Catalina Foothills is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cienega, they pushed their record up to 16-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cienega hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Catalina Foothills struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cienega skirted past Catalina Foothills 2-1 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
