Basketball Recap: Pueblo South Takes a Loss

Pueblo South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks 58-23. The Colts lost against the Red-Tailed Hawks in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 41-27 score last time.

Pueblo South's loss came despite strong showings from Kyla Cruz and Rainie Romero-Stapleton. Cruz almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds, while Romero-Stapleton posted four points. Those 12 points gave Cruz a new career-high.

Cheyenne Mountain's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emily Judi led the charge by putting up ten points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. Maya Stepan was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Pueblo South's loss dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their record is now 7-8.

Pueblo South has already played their next match, a 50-16 defeat against Pueblo Centennial on the 27th. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-31 loss against Discovery Canyon on the 28th.
