Softball Game Preview: Hector Wildcats vs. Hackett Hornets

The Hector Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Hackett Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hector is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.

Hector is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Jasper with a sharp 24-3 victory on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won four in a row.

Sarena Myers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Hector got a massive performance out of Olivia Biggers, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Addison Campbell, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.

Hector always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .825. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Hackett has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.08 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit last Saturday. They came up short against Gravette, falling 13-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Hornets have suffered since March 9, 2024.

Hector's record is now 8-1. As for Hackett, their loss dropped their record down to 11-2.

Hector might still be hurting after the 16-1 defeat they got from Hackett when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Can Hector avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
