Mendota's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Genoa-Kingston Mascot 6-5. This was payback for the Trojans, who suffered a 6-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.

The team relied heavily on Charlie Dankenbring, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Laurali Thompson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Mendota's victory bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Genoa-Kingston, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Mendota will look to defend their home field on Monday against Newman Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. The Comets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.12 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Genoa-Kingston, they are taking a road trip to take on Dixon at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
