Baseball Recap: Beloit Memorial Comes Up Short

Beloit Memorial had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-8 to make it nine. They fell 4-0 to the Badger Badgers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Purple Knights of the 17-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Badger, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

For Badger's part, not much got past Riley Lussmyer, who gave up just four hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Beloit Memorial off the board. Lussmyer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bradley McCarthy, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Ryan Albanese was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Coming up, Beloit Memorial will host Waterford at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wolverines will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Purple Knights surely won't give up without a fight. Badger will be paying especially close attention to Beloit Memorial's game: after Beloit Memorial faces off against Waterford, they'll take on Badger again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
