Baseball Game Preview: Branham Bruins vs. Leigh Longhorns

The Branham Bruins are taking a road trip to face off against the Leigh Longhorns at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Leigh took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Branham, who comes in off a win.

Branham will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Pioneer, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bruins came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 8-3 on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Leigh fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Christopher on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Longhorns have suffered since May 24, 2024.

Lance Takamura was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Takamura wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Marcus Glanville, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Branham's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Leigh, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 19-5.

Branham was able to grind out a solid victory over Leigh in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 7-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bruins since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
