Baseball Recap: University Prep Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

University Prep hadn't done well against Excelsior Charter recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Jaguars were the clear victors by a 14-7 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Jaguars have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Connor Byrom made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, University Prep got a massive performance out of Baxter Andersen, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Andersen has posted since back in February. Jayden Castillo also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

University Prep lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory was the third in a row for University Prep, bringing their record up to 16-1. As for Excelsior Charter, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

University Prep will have a chance to go back-to-back against Excelsior Charter: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
