Softball Recap: Chaparral Comes Up Short

Chaparral had lost six straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 14-17 to make it seven. They lost 8-2 to the Canyon View Jaguars. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Firebirds couldn't push the score so high this time.

Kaelyn Moffitt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.

As for Canyon View, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 25-4. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won 20 games by six runs or more so far this season.

On Canyon View's side, Emily Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. Davis has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brooke Downs and Rylen Buchberger did most of the damage at the plate: Downs went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Buchberger went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI Downs has posted since back in March. Makenzie Jones was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Chaparral does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Canyon View, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Cienega on the 6th.
