Softball Recap: East Lincoln Mustangs vs. Foard Tigers
East Lincoln fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Foard on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Foard Tigers by a score of 4-3. East Lincoln was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Foard apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.
Kaitlyn Gust spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Taniyah Thomas and Emery Pethel stepped up to the plate in a big way. Thomas scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Pethel scored a run while going 2-for-4.
On Foard's side, they also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: Karsyn Sigmon gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those eight innings set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Riley Vogel was incredible, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Mattie Leonhardt was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
East Lincoln's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Foard, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.
East Lincoln will head out on the road to square off against West Iredell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Foard, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Stephens at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
