Football Recap: Bowie's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Thursday + How To Watch

Bowie won the last time they faced Haltom and things went their way on Thursday too. The Volunteers walked away with a 30-20 victory over the Buffalos. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Volunteers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Buffalos are ranked 293rd).

Bowie had a senior duo take command as Keidric Osunde-Brown picked up 141 receiving yards and one TD and Jayden Bibbs threw for 256 yards while completing 73.7% of his passes.

Bowie didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Haltom to a completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Kevin Baines, Cedric Johnson, and Kaleb Phifer, who each logged one passes deflected. Bowie has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.64 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.64 in their last three games.

Haltom lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Vudrico Roberson, who rushed for 132 yards and one score. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 105 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Elijah Lewis, who gained 82 total yards and a touchdown.

Bowie's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.0 points over those games. As for Haltom, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Bowie will head out to square off against Lamar at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 887 yards in their previous games. As for Haltom, they are taking a road trip to challenge South Grand Prairie at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st. The Buffalos will need to watch out since the Warriors have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
