Basketball Recap: Kaidan Mata's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Santa Fe over Iowa Colony

After flying high against West Fork last Saturday, Santa Fe came back down to earth. The Santa Fe Indians fell 62-50 to the Iowa Colony Pioneers on Tuesday. The Indians were probably out for revenge after losing 87-65 to them when the teams met back in December of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Santa Fe's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaidan Mata, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Jewell, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

Santa Fe moved to 7-10 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Iowa Colony, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Santa Fe will host La Porte at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. La Porte will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Santa Fe surely won't give up without a fight. As for Iowa Colony, they will venture away from home to square off against Angleton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Angleton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
