Basketball Recap: Kennedy Comes Up Short

Kennedy played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the DSST: Green Valley Ranch Raptors 73-40. While losing is never fun, the Commanders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while the Raptors are ranked 73rd).

Anthony Zink and Xavier Benavidez certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Zink went 5-for-12 to rack up 13 points, while Benavidez posted eight points.

DSST: Green Valley Ranch got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Daunte Taylor out in front who went 7-for-8 en route to 17 points. The dominant performance gave Taylor a new career-high in points. Skyyaire Russell was another key player, going 7-for-12 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

Kennedy dropped their record down to 3-15 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for DSST: Green Valley Ranch, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.

Coming up, Kennedy will head out to challenge Denver West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Denver West is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.5 points per game this season. As for DSST: Green Valley Ranch, they will be playing at home against DSST: Montview at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. DSST: Montview knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 matches -- so hopefully DSST: Green Valley Ranch likes a good challenge.
