Basketball Game Preview: Show Low Cougars vs. Winslow Bulldogs

Having just played yesterday, the Show Low Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Winslow Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Show Low is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 83-81 heartbreaker at the hands of Florence. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Gophers are ranked 39th).

Meanwhile, Winslow had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They claimed a resounding 78-45 win over St. Johns. That looming 78-45 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bulldogs yet this season.

Winslow had a senior duo take command as Isaac David dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 boards and Izaak Panana went 9 of 13 on his way to 23 points and five assists. David's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Curtis, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points along with five boards and four steals.

Winslow smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Show Low's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-10. As for Winslow, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.

Show Low was able to grind out a solid win over Winslow in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 64-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for Show Low since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
