Championship teams dominate 2012 MaxPreps California All-State Volleyball Teams

With plenty of teams and even more talent in California, picking the volleyball All-State teams is no easy task. While many players had unbelievable individual seasons, extra consideration had to be given to those that led their teams to championships.

Here are the MaxPreps 2012 California All-State Volleyball teams.

Division I First Team
MVP: OH - Gabriella Palmeri, St. Francis (Sacramento), Senior

The 6-foot-1 outside hitter was a second team All-American and led St. Francis to a 38-3 record and a state Division I runner-up finish. Palmeri was the Sacramento Bee's Player of Year in 2011 and 2012 and as a senior she led the team with 434 kills, 30 aces, 392 digs, 36 blocks and 280 serve receptions.  She will attend Pepperdine.

MB - Haylee Roberts, Liberty (Bakersfield), Senior

A third team All-American, the 6-3 Roberts led Liberty with 404 kills (50 percent), 170 blocks, 85 digs and 26 aces (97 percent). She was the Bakersfield Californian's co-Player of the Year and will attend Oregon.



MB - Kaitlyn Edwards, Marymount (Los Angeles), Senior
The 6-2 Edwards, who will attend Wyoming, was I-AA Southern Section's Player of Year and earned Player of Match in leading Marymount to the Division I state championship.

MB - Sabrina Clayton, California (San Ramon), Senior
The Santa Clara-bound Clayton helped the Grizzlies to an East Bay Athletic League title and their first North Coast Section championship in 30 years. She had 583 kills, 259 digs, 57 aces and 44 blocks and was named the EBAL's MVP.

OH - Reily Buechler, Torrey Pines (San Diego), Junior
The 6-2 Buechler was the top player on a talented Torrey Pines team. Recording 424 kills, 267 digs and 30 aces, Buechler was the San Diego U-T Player of Year and San Diego Section All-Star. She has committed to UCLA and received Underclass All-American honors from MaxPreps.

OH - Ashlie Williams, Marymount (Los Angeles), Senior
A second team All-American, the 5-11 Williams led Marymount to the Division I state title with more than 300 kills and 50 blocks. She will attend Georgetown.

The 5-10 Dykstra was a second team All-American and named California's Gatorade State Player of the Year. She's UCLA-bound after totaling 403 kills (40 percent), 54 aces, 63 blocks and 456 digs to lead the Seahawks to the state Division I semifinals. She was an all-CIF Southern Section pick.

OH - Haley DeSales, La Salle (Pasadena), Sophomore
The 5-10 DeSales was the Southern Section I-A Player of Year. She recorded 389 kills, 220 digs, 55 aces (395 serves, 91.4 percent). DeSales was named All-Area Girls' Volleyball Player of the Year for the Glendale News-Press, Burbank Leader, La Cañada Valley Sun and Pasadena Sun.



S - Taylor Nelson, Granite Bay, Junior
The 5-11 Nelson was a Sacramento Bee All-Metro choice and is a two-time co-MVP in the Sierra Foothill League. She led the Grizzlies to the NorCal Division I final.

S - Sara Hughes, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), Senior
The 5-11 Hughes was named Orange County Volleyball Player of Year and was all CIF-Southern Section. She has signed to play sand volleyball at USC.

S - Ryann Chandler, Torrey Pines (San Diego), Senior
The 5-11 Chandler was a third team All-American and ran a TPHS offense that featured seven Division I players.  Chandler, named All-San Diego U-T, collected 774 assists, 124 digs and had 29 aces on the season. She was named the San Diego Section's Player of the Year and will play for Pepperdine.

S - Kelsey Humphreys, Corona del Mar (Newport Beach), Senior
Humphreys, a two-time All-CIF I-AA selection, amassed 888 assists and earned the All-Pacific Coast League MVP and was named the Daily Pilot's Dream Team Player of Year. She will play at Stanford.

L - Caroline Knop, La Salle (Pasadena), Junior
Knop has committed to Michigan. In helping leading La Salle to a 34-3 season, she totaled 520 digs and 29 aces (384 serves). She was CIF I-A All-Southern Section.

Division I Second Team

OH - Hayley Hodson, Corona del Mar (Newport Beach), Sophomore
Hodson led the Sea Kings to the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs. She finished with an area-best 453 kills and earned first-team All-CIF Southern Section Division I-AA, second-team All-Orange County and first-team All-Pacific Coast League honors. 



OH - Tia Scambray, Dana Hills (Dana Point), Junior
The 6-foot junior led the Dolphins with 347 kills, 48 blocks, 165 digs and 55 aces. She was Coast League MVP, Orange County Register First Team pick and CIF I-AA All-Southern Section.

OH - McKenna Painton, Centennial (Bakersfield), Senior
The 5-8 Painton totaled 426 kills, 405 digs, 31 blocks and 36 aces in leading Centennial. She was the Bakersfield Californian Co-Player of Year and will attend Cal State Fullerton.

OH - Krista Rymer, Frontier (Bakersfield), Senior
The 5-11 senior totaled 595 kills, 25 blocks, 430 digs, 51 aces (92 percent/440 serves) and 523 serve receptions in leading Frontier, and was named a Bakersfield Californian honoree.

OH - Alyse Wallace Ford, Laguna Beach, Sophomore

Wallace Ford recorded 488 Kills (54 percent), 40 aces, 21 blocks and 159 digs and was named to the MaxPreps Sophomore All-American Team and All-CIF Southern Section.

OH - Shelby Knowles, Palo Alto, Senior
The 5-8 senior was named Co-MVP of SCVAL League and to the All-Palo Alto Times Team. Knowles compiled 296 digs and 434 kills and was also a Mercury News All-Star.

OH - Jasmine Burton, Louisville (Woodland Hills), Senior
The 5-10 Virginia commit was co-MVP of the Mission League. She earned Southern Section I-A recognition with 580 kills and 519 assists, and was named the L.A. Daily News' Player of the Year.



OH/MB - Laura Meyenberg, Salinas, Senior
The 5-10 Meyenberg was named the Salinas Californian's Player of Year and Monterey Bay League (Gavilan Division) Player of Year. She totaled 324 kills, 309 digs, 469 serve receptions, 40 aces and 25 blocks as the Cowboys reached the Central Coast Section Division I semifinals.

MB - Alyse Whitaker, Vista Murrieta (Murrieta), Senior
The 6-2 Whitaker was selected Southern League MVP. She will play at Duke.

MB/OH - McKenzie Jacobsen, Clovis West (Fresno), Senior

The 6-6 Jacobsen led CWHS to a 28-13 record as she recorded 251 kills and 41 blocks . She will attend Arizona.

MB - Crissy Jones, Los Alamitos, Junior
The 6-2 All Orange County selection recorded 256 kills and 66 blocks in leading the Griffins. She shared Sunset League MVP honors and recently committed to Washington.

S - Shelley Anderson, Chino Hills, Senior
The 5-11 Anderson is a three-time All-League first team pick and totaled 785 assists, 194 digs and 40 aces in leading the Huskies. She will play at UC Irvine.

S/OH - Katelyn Doherty, Menlo-Atherton (Atherton), Senior
The senior outside hitter/setter was named the Peninsula Athletic League's MVP and to the San Jose Mercury All-Area Team after helping Menlo-Atherton win the Central Coast Section Division I title. She contributed 406 digs, 312 kills and 421 assists.{PAGEBREAK}Division II First Team

A First Team All-American, Schmidt was the sparkplug for California's Division II champion with a 38-0 record. She recorded 570 digs, 22 aces and 465 serve receptions with 23 errors. The 5-6 Schmidt was the San Jose Mercury News Player of the Year and the WCAL's MVP.



S - Michelle Hernandez, Bella Vista (Fair Oaks), Senior
The 5-8 Hernandez was named Sacramento Bee All-Metro after leading the 31-9 Broncos to the Division II section semifinals. The Capital Valley Conference MVP totaled 983 assists, 226 digs, 101 kills and 80 aces. 

S - Tiana Barnett, King (Riverside), Senior
Barnett set an Inland Empire record with 1,232 assists in leading MLK to the state final. She was named All-CIF Southern Section.

S/OH - Kylie Miller, Rancho Cucamonga, Freshman
A Freshman All-American, the 5-10 Miller led RCHS to a 28-6 record with 339 kills, 50 aces,188 digs and 414 assists. She also had just two errors in 74 serve receptions.

MB - Brittany Abercrombie, La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad), Junior
The 6-2 Abercrombie led the Mavericks to the Division II state semifinals and totaled 455 kills, 74 blocks, 98 digs and 40 aces. The future UCLA Bruin was an All-CIF San Diego Section honoree and the San Diego U-T's North County Player of the Year.

MB - Flynn Salas-Miller, Venice (Los Angeles), Junior
The 5-11 Salas-Miller led Venice to a 31-10 record with 253 kills and 94 blocks. She was the Los Angeles City Section Division II Player of Year.

OH - Ashley Harris, Casa Grande (Petaluma), Senior
The 6-8 Harris led Casa Grande to a 25-7 record as she recorded 526 kills, 189 digs, 31 blocks and 41 aces on the season. She will attend the University of Arizona.



OH - Maycie LaBass, Gregori (Modesto), Junior
The 6-foot LaBass was among the national leaders in kills and attacking with 579 kills, at 65 percent. She also had 37 blocks, 279 digs and 74 aces and was a Modesto Bee All-Area pick.

The co-MVP of the SCVAL (De Anza Division) had 503 kills (6.1 per set) to lead Los Gatos to the CCS Division II final.

OH - Kalei Greeley, King (Riverside), Junior
The 6-2 Greeley was the CIF II-AA Southern Section Player of Year. In totaling 541 kills, Greeley led MLK to the state final. She was selected at the 2012 HSGameTime Girls Volleyball Player of the Year.

OH - Clare Powers, Archbishop Mitty (San Jose), Junior
The 6-3 Powers was a first team Underclass All-American, first-team All-WCAL selection and finished the season with 366 kills, 212 digs, 38 blocks and 27 aces while helping Mitty to an unbeaten season and No. 1 state ranking.

OH - Alex Sheredy, Presentation (San Jose), Senior
The 5-11 Sheredy was a San Jose Mercury News All-Star and All-WCAL first-team pick with 374 kills, 299 digs, 45 blocks and 43 aces for the CCS Division II semifinalist. She will attend Washington University in St. Louis.

OH - Rachael Schaefer, El Diamante (Visalia), Junior
Named the Visalia Times All-County Player of the Year, the 6-foot Schaefer finished with 329 kills and 25 blocks as the Miners made history by winning the program's first Central Section Division II championship.

OH - Aleisha Coates, Silverado (Victorville), Senior
Coates, a four-year varsity player and last year's Daily Press Girls Volleyball Athlete of the Year, will attend New Mexico State. She was the Desert Sky League Player of Year in 2011 and 2012.

OH - Deanna Blaine, Whittier Christian (La Habra), Junior
The 5-10 Blaine recorded 386 kills, 29 blocks, 312 digs, 41 aces and 506 receptions for the Heralds. She was the All-CIF Division II-A Player of the Year, a first-team All-Area selection and the MVP of the Olympic League.

OH - Maggie Dunn, Mayfield (Pasadena), Senior
The 5-10 senior finished with 245 kills, 322 digs, 36 aces and 30 blocks for the Cubs. Dunn was selected to All-Prep League and All-CIF Southern Section II-AA first teams. She was named to the Pasadena Star-News all-area volleyball team.

OH - Chloe Lott, St. Francis (Mountain View), Senior
The daughter of NFL standout Ronnie Lott, the 5-8 senior totaled 421 kills and was named Palo Alto Daily News Player of the Year and was a First-Team All-WCAL pick.

The UC Davis-bound standout contributed 332 kills, 165 digs, 33 aces and 27 blocks and was named All-Rio Hondo League co-Most Valuable Player. Named to All-CIF Southern Section II-AA first team.

S - Rachel Linden, Las Lomas (Walnut Creek), Senior
A first team All-DFAL selection, the senior recorded 1,245 assists, 354 digs, and 79 aces in leading the Knights.

S - Kelsey Crawford, Archbishop Mitty (San Jose), Junior
The 5-9 junior setter recorded 1,042 assists (11 per set) as the Monarchs went 38-0, finished No. 2 in the U.S. and won the California Division II title. She also totaled 218 digs, 45 kills and 22 aces (95%).



MB - Justine Williams, Madera South, Senior
Named Madera Tribune co-Player of the Year and County/Metro League co-Most Valuable Player, the 6-1 Williams compiled 258 kills, 274 digs and 30 blocks. 

MB - Masha Yelsukova, Cupertino, Junior
The 6-foot junior earned El Camino League's Most Valuable Player award and set school records with 399 kills and 146 blocks. She also served 82 aces in 393 serves (90%).

OH - Kylee Wolfe, Whittier Christian (La Habra), Junior
Wolfe, a junior, was named Player of the Year by the Whittier Daily News. She totaled 410 kills, 253 digs, 49 acres and 23 blocks as the Heralds won the Southern Section II-A title and won 35 of 40 games.

OH - Chanel Hoffman, Santiago (Corona), Junior
The 6-0 junior was named the Big Valley League's Most Valuable Player and to the CIF All-Southern Section team. She led Santiago with 371 kills, 260 digs and 56 aces.

OH - Emily Reder, San Ramon Valley (Danville), Senior
Reder earned first team All-EBAL honors in 2012 with 589 kills, 479 digs, 63 aces and 31 blocks.

OH - Cassidy Denny, El Camino (Sacramento), Senior
The 5-6 outside hitter was All-Sacramento Bee Metro in leading the Eagles to the NorCal Division II finals. She collected 279 digs, 68 aces, 503 serve receptions and had 398 kills for her 35-6 team.{PAGEBREAK}Division III First Team

First Team All American Durr helped lead Cathedral to California's 3A title. She totaled 479 kills, 90 percent serving (400 serves/59 aces), 54 blocks, 306 serve receptions (15 errors) and 209 digs. All-San Diego Section and all-San Diego Union honoree.

S - Lauren Miller, Cathedral Catholic (San Diego), Senior
A First Team All-American, the 5-9 senior helped the Dons to the California 3A title. On 479 serves, she recorded 43 aces (97%). She also had 1,060 assists and 210 digs and was CIF all-San Diego Section and All San Diego Union selectee.



S - Ashley Torok, St. Margaret's (San Juan Capistrano), Senior
The CIF III-A Southern Section Player of Year, Torok finished the season with 902 set assists and had 48 aces and 131 digs. She was the Co-MVP of the Academy League after leading Tartans to 24-3 record.

OH - Gigi Morally, St. Margaret's (San Juan Capistrano), Senior
The 5-11 senior was named to the CIF 3A San Diego Section after a season in which she led her team in kills (367). She also tallied 214 digs and was named Academy League Co-MVP along with Torok. She has signed with NYU.

S/RS - Kirsten Mead, Valley Christian (San Jose), Junior
A Second Team Medium School All-American, the 5-11 junior guided Valley Christian to the semifinals of the California Division III tournament. She registered 249 kills, 330 digs, 606 assists and 83 aces.

S - McKenna Carroll, Enterprise (Redding), Junior
Carroll set a Northern Section single-season record with 1,172 assists and had a team-high 95 aces. She also led her team to a championship win over Shasta to earn section MVP and was named Redding Record-Searchlight's Player of the Year.

S - Sophia Mar, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland), Senior
A 5-8 senior, Mar was the West Alameda County Conference's MVP and finished the season with 1,026 assists in 38 matches.

MB - Maddie Cannon, Rio Americano (Sacramento), Senior
A Second Team Medium School All-American, Cannon was a Sacramento Bee All-Metro All-Star. The 6-1 senior totaled 570 kills, 309 digs, 58 blocks and had a 93% serving rate (62 aces/420 attempts) in leading the Raiders. 

MB - Lana Brown, Shasta (Redding), Junior
A Third Team Medium School All-American, Brown led the state in blocks with 298 blocks to go with her 377 kills during the Wolves' section finals run. She was named All-North Section.

MB - Annie Shurtz, Campolindo (Moraga), Senior
The Diablo Foothill Athletic League's MVP, Shurtz was named a Third Team Medium School All-American. She led the Cougars to the North Coast Section and Northern California Division III title. She finished with 500 kills, 54 blocks and 49 aces.



OH - Meranda Watkins, Hoover (Fresno), Senior
The 5-8 senior led the Patriots with 533 kills, 468 digs, and 98 aces.

OH - Kyra Holt, Albany, Senior
Holt, who is bound for Washington State, was the MVP of the Tri-County Athletic League's Rock Division and led the Cougars to the semifinals of the NCS Division III playoffs. She finished with 438 kills and 55 aces.

OH - Raena Borcuk, Rim of the World (Lake Arrowhead), Senior
The CIF Division III-A Southern Section Player of the Year was also named Top Offensive Player in the Mountain Valley League. She will attend the U.S. Naval Academy.

The sophomore was named All-CIF Southern Section and MVP of the Ocean League for the second straight year.

S - Sophie Seiberth, Campolindo (Moraga), Senior
Seiberth finished her third season as Campolindo's setter with 920 assists, 65 digs and 42 aces. She was first team All-DFAL.

L - Madison Helm-Jinvinsian, Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth), Junior
All-CIF Southern Section pick led Trailblazers to 20-8 season.

L - Kyle Carlson, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland), Junior
The 5-6 Carlson was first-team All-WACC and had 722 digs for the season as the Dragons finished 30-8.



L - Amanda Lee, Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco), Senior
The 5-1 Lee had 350 serve receptions, 352 digs and 96.5% serving for the Fighting Irish. Lee was named All-City by the San Francisco Examiner.

OH - Hannah Yi, Eagle Rock (Los Angeles), Junior
In leading Eagle Rock to a 23-15 record, Yi was named L.A. Times Division III-A City Player of Year.

OH - Kelsey Sampson, Vista del Lago (Folsom), Senior
The Sacramento Bee All-Metro honoree collected 468 kills, 69 aces (91% on 423 serves), 323 digs, and 441 serve receptions.

An All-Metro Sacramento Bee pick, Carte led Oakmont to a 34-3 season and a Sac-Joaquin Section Division III title. The senior had 263 digs, 53 aces (91%) and 323 kills. 

OH - Courtney Wong, Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco), Senior
The 5-9 Wong was named SF Examiner's Player of the Year with 206 digs, 31 aces, 181 kills and 323 serve receptions. 

OH - Kristin DePaoli, Enterprise (Redding), Junior
DePaoli led the state in kills with 608 as Enterprise won the North Section title. Honored all-Area by Redding Record Searchlight.

MB - Taylor Lillard, Victor Valley (Victorville), Senior
Lillard is a four-time All-League selection and a three-time First-Team All-Area honoree.  She has signed with Gardner Webb University in Charlotte, NC.

S/RS - Maddie Dilfer, Valley Christian (San Jose), Junior
The 5-11 junior was a first-team All-WCAL player and San Jose Mercury News pick after recording 643 assists, 228 kills 352 digs and 62 aces (569 serves) as Valley Christian won the CCS Division III title.{PAGEBREAK}Division IV First Team

S - Tristan Self, Hemet, Junior
Self, a 5-foot-7 junior, averaged 10.8 assists per set in helping Hemet capture a third-straight section title. It's the second straight season Self has earned CIF-Southern Section IV-A Player of the Year honors. 



S - Cammie Merten, Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton), Senior
A First Team All-American, the 5-9 Merten recorded 241 digs, 867 assists and 43 aces (93.8%/276 serves) in leading Sacred Heart to the California finals.

MB - Alexis Salmons, Parker (San Diego), Senior
The 6-1 Salmons was named all-San Diego Section as Parker won the state 4A title. She will attend St. Mary's.

MB - Mar-Jana Phillips, Rolling Hills Prep (San Pedro), Senior
The 6-0 senior was Coastal League Player of Year, as well as CIF Southern Section Division IV Player of Year.

MB - Payton Smith, Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton), Senior
Smith played a major role in her team earning silver medal as the state 4A runner-up. The 6-1 senior collected 310 kills (70%), 148 blocks and 60 aces in 204 serves.

OH - Ellie Shannon, Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton), Senior
Shannon, a 6-0 senior, was a Small School all-American who collected 366 kills, 108 digs, 110 blocks and 95 percent serving (only five service errors). 

OH - Kelsey Shaver, Harbor (Santa Cruz), Senior
Shaver was co-Player of Year in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League. In collecting 357 kills, 234 digs,and 42 aces, she helped lead Harbor to the Division IV state semifinals.

Headed to the University of California, the 5-11 senior totaled 502 kills, 437 digs, 50 blocks, 59 aces (92%), and 218 serve receptions.



OH - Maddie Huber, Menlo (Atherton), Junior
The WBAL MVP collected 301 kills, 296 digs, 47 aces (91%/391 serves) and 19 blocks. She committed only 12 errors on 450 serve receptions. 

OH - Sara Schell, Bear River (Grass Valley), Senior
Named all-Sacramento Bee All-Metro honor, Schell was third in the state in Division IV with 481 kills. She also had 300 digs and 59 aces (438 serves).

MB - Anela Visesio, Seaside, Junior

The 5-11 Boaz led Loara to a 27-1-1 record with 46 aces, 156 digs, 109 kills, and 651 assists.

S- Taylor Ross, West Valley (Cottonwood), Senior
The senior was first-team North Section setter after leading the Eagles to a Division IV championship — her third in four years. She totaled 54 aces and 996 assists (9.3).

Had 275 kills and 57 total blocks and signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Mississippi State University. She was named All-CIF twice and first team all league three times. 

OH - Taryn Nelson, Bellarmine-Jefferson (Burbank), Senior
Nelson tallied 315 kills, 89 aces and 282 digs for the Santa Cruz League champions. Named Santa Cruz League MVP, Nelson earned a spot on the All-CIF Southern Section Division IV-A first team. 



OH - Michaela Dews, Parker (San Diego), Junior
A first team All-San Diego Section pick, Dews was dominant with 20 kills in the state title match. Dews was All-San Diego Union First team.

OH - Molly Tobin, Harbor (Santa Cruz), Senior
A 5-11 senior was co-Player of Year in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League and recorded 288 kills, 176 digs, and 69 aces.

Grunt, was First Team All-TCAL and had 414 kills, 137 blocks, 92 digs and 89 aces. She is headed to UCSB.

A Third Team Small School All-American, the 6-1 junior led Tri-City to the California 5A finals. She totaled 358 kills, 150 assists, 51 aces, 38 blocks, 168 digs and had 202 serve receptions.



OH - Celeste Rivero, Orangewood Academy (Garden Grove), Senior
Rivero was named Southern Section's Division V-A Player of The Year after leading Orangewood to 22-5 season.

OH - Jessica Hamilton, Alverno (Sierra Madre), Senior
The 5-9 senior collected 311 kills, 233 digs, 35 aces and was named Southern Section V-AA Player of Year.

OH - Caitlin Hall, St. Monica Academy (Pasadena), Senior
Hall was tabbed the International League's Most Valuable Player after leading the Crusaders to a CIF Southern Section Division V-A championship match. Hall is a four-time league MVP and three-year All-Section player.

An All-CIF Southern Section choice, the 5-3 Meranda averaged 5.7 digs per set (309 on season) and had 329 serve receptions (96%).

Kuroda led the Patriots to an unbeaten league title and 24-straight wins before losing. She was All-Southern Section and Majestic Player of Year.

VanSolkema led CCHS to a 26-8 record with 697 assists and 90 aces (506 attempts, 98%). The 5-6 junior also had 58 kills.

The 5-7 senior dished out 709 assists, 37 kills, 26 aces and 176 digs.
