Softball Recap: Lakota West Snags Ninth Win in Last 11 Games

With a playoff win on the line, Lakota West rose to the challenge on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the Colerain Cardinals. The Firebirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Ava Gilbert looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bellea Lucas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Kopp, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Lakota West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .500 or higher in three consecutive games.

Lakota West is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Colerain, they dropped their record down to 5-17 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Lakota West will face off against Centerville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Firebirds will need to watch out since the Elks have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches. Colerain does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
