Softball Recap: Chaparral Takes a Loss

Chaparral extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping their season record down to 4-20 in the process. They came up short against the Silver Fighting Colts, falling 15-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Colts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 23-0 on Tuesday.

As for Silver, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 21-4. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Colts, who have now won 17 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Silver's part, Ariel Alvarado made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Alvarado has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maria Ruelaz, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brailyn Lopez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Silver beat Chaparral by a score of 18-0 later that day.
