Baseball Recap: West Ottawa Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After low-scoring totals in their previous four matchup, West Ottawa brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Grand Ledge Comets on Saturday. The win was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Connor Knapp was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Knapp was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one double. He has become a key player for West Ottawa: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Solomon Wegmeyer was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. West Ottawa is undefeated when Wegmeyer posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jake Wagner, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

West Ottawa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got West Ottawa back to even at 5-5. As for Grand Ledge, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record.

Coming up, West Ottawa will welcome Grandville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Grand Ledge, they are taking a road trip to face off against Waverly at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Comets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
