Mt. Vernon had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They took their game on Thursday with ease, bagging a 69-37 win over the East St. Louis Flyers. The Rams have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Mt. Vernon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Arwyn Wilkey led the charge by going 7-for-13 from beyond the arc on her way to 21 points and three steals. That's the most points Wilkey has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Melaina Zedalis, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards.

Mt. Vernon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Mt. Vernon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-3 record this season. East St. Louis dropped their record down to 5-23 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Mt. Vernon will face off against Carbondale at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Mt. Vernon's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 contests. East St. Louis does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
