Preview: Platte Valley Broncos vs. Highland Huskies

The Platte Valley Broncos and the Highland Huskies will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Platte Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday.

Platte Valley's 16-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. The contest between Platte Valley and Strasburg wasn't particularly close, with Platte Valley falling 63-44.

The losing side was boosted by Braylon Edstrom, who scored 20 points along with four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games he's played. Regan Edstrom was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, even though Windsor Charter Academy scored an imposing 74 points on Saturday, Highland still came out on top. Highland secured a 78-74 W over Windsor Charter Academy. The win made it back-to-back wins for Highland.

Sawyer Morgan continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 19 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brogan Palmer, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.

Platte Valley's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-7. As for Highland, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-4.

Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's match: Platte Valley have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 7 threes per game. It's a different story for Highland, though, as they've been averaging only 6.3 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Platte Valley came up short against Highland in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 67-61. Thankfully for Platte Valley, Hyatt Tolle (who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
