Westbrook had lost 13 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-7 to make it 14. They came up short against the Thornton Academy Trojans, falling 13-2. If the Blue Blazes were looking for revenge after losing 17-1 to the Trojans when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Westbrook saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Brown, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Mitchel Violette also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
As for Thornton Academy, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 8-0-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.
On Thornton Academy's side, Jacob Fish made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fish was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other pitching news, Ben Indorf looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Noah Fullerton, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Brennan Tabor was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Westbrook is set to challenge their familiar foe Gorham at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Thornton Academy will square off against rival Sanford at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 1.3, the Spartans 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
