Baseball Recap: Ansonia Comes Up Short

Ansonia extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-10 in the process. They lost 11-2 to the Tri-County North Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 7-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Asher Shives was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

As for Tri-County North, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-6 record. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.

On Tri-County North's side, Zach Jean spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carter Lake, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Ben Knife was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Ansonia is taking a road trip to square off against Covington at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Tri-County North, they will host Newton Local at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
