Softball Recap: Solon Comets vs. Perry Pirates
Solon had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-12 to make it five. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Perry Pirates. If the Comets were looking for revenge after losing 10-4 to the Pirates when the teams met back in May of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Grace Gerhard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on 11 hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Solon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colleen Krzywicki, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
As for Perry, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.
On Perry's side, Morgan Winters made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. Winters was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, Arianna Rogers was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Sophie Sivon also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Solon will head out to challenge Hudson at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Perry, they will challenge Edgewood at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight.
