Basketball Recap: Lake Weir Comes Up Short

Lake Weir won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They lost 61-40 to the South Lake Eagles. The Hurricanes were down 51-25 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Lake Weir still got an impressive performance from Angel Henderson, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds. Those seven boards gave Henderson a new career-high. Joshua Jackson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Lake Weir's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for South Lake, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Lake Weir and South Lake should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Lake Weir (ranked 316th) will meet Belleview (ranked 674th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lake Weir is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season. Meanwhile, South Lake will take on Umatilla at 7:00 p.m. on Friday up 478 places (186 vs. 664).
