Recap: Elliott County Lions vs. Russell Red Devils
The Elliott County Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. Their rough 70-49 loss to Russell might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Elliott County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while the Red Devils are ranked 99th).
Russell's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Rimmer, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tatum Fleming, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Elliott County has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-17 record this season. As for Russell, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elliott County will square off against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Russell, they will head out on the road to square off against the Comets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
