Basketball Preview: Berkeley Springs Indians vs. Southern Fulton Indians
The Berkeley Springs Indians will head out on the road to challenge the Southern Fulton Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Southern Fulton took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Berkeley Springs, who comes in off a win.
Berkeley Springs fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. Everything went their way against Hancock last Monday as Berkeley Springs made off with a 49-29 win. Given Berkeley Springs' advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 90th in West Virginia, while the Panthers are ranked 280th in Maryland), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Southern Fulton unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell to Northern Bedford County 48-43.
The losing side was boosted by Andrea Elder, who dropped a triple-double on 12 points, ten rebounds, and 13 blocks. She is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted three or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashlynne McQuait, who scored eight points.
Berkeley Springs' win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-6. As for Southern Fulton, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-6.
Berkeley Springs beat the Indians 48-40 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Berkeley Springs since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
