Basketball Game Preview: Northern Valley Huskies vs. Hanover Wildcats

The Northern Valley Huskies are taking a road trip to square off against the Hanover Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Northern Valley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 51-36 victory over Tescott.

Northern Valley found their leader in sophomore Jordyn Cox, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. Cox is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaycee Gebhard, who posted eight points in addition to ten rebounds and five assists.

Northern Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Hanover had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Buffaloes as they made off with a 66-43 win. The Wildcats pushed the score to 62-36 by the end of the third, a deficit the Buffaloes cut but never quite recovered from.

Hanover's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points over those games. As for Northern Valley, their win bumped their record up to 7-14.

Northern Valley was dealt a bruising 56-28 loss at the hands of Hanover when the teams last played back in March of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hanover's Anna Jueneman, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 11 steals. Now that Northern Valley knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
