Basketball Recap: Hampton Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Hampton Christian Academy entered their match against Greenbrier Christian Academy on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Hampton Christian Academy Warriors fell 36-23 to the Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gators this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 56-40 last Monday.

Despite the loss, Hampton Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Mahdy Sigler, who posted eight points along with 12 rebounds and seven blocks. The dominant performance gave Sigler a new career-high in blocks.

Greenbrier Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Katelyn Balka, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Balka is becoming a predictor of Greenbrier Christian Academy's success: when she posts at least ten rebounds the team is 9-1 (and 2-3 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Callie Ewell, who scored 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Hampton Christian Academy and nudges their season record down to 10-4. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-4.

Hampton Christian Academy has already played their next contest, a 74-39 victory against Portsmouth Christian on the 17th. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 37-26 win against StoneBridge on the 18th.
