Basketball Game Preview: Turner Lions vs. Highland Park Scots

Turner is 0-5 against Highland Park since January of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Turner Lions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Highland Park Scots at 7:15 p.m.

Turner is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Friday. They were dealt a 73-46 loss at the hands of Newman Smith. The contest was a close 29-28 at the break, but unfortunately for the Lions it sure didn't stay that way.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sahil Anand, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Rocco Torres was another key player, going 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points.

Meanwhile, Highland Park waltzed into their match on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They snuck past the Rangers with a 58-54 win. Given the Scots' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while the Rangers are ranked 138th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Highland Park pushed their record up to 17-4 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.9 points per game. As for Turner, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10.

Turner was dealt a bruising 98-55 loss at the hands of Highland Park when the teams last played back in December of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Turner was down 50-28.
