Basketball Game Preview: Northeast Eagles vs. Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles

Northeast is on a six-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, Shelbyville Central a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Monday. It'll be Battle of the Birds when the Northeast Eagles duke it out with the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Northeast is likely headed into the game with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Northwest back in December of 2024. Northeast fell 56-49 to Northwest. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 361st, while the Vikings are ranked 177th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tayshaun Mozee, who posted 17 points. That was a full 34.7% of Northeast's points, marking the third time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jo Sia Harris, who earned seven points along with six boards and four blocks.

Meanwhile, Shelbyville Central came up short against Memphis University School on Saturday and fell 44-37.

Northeast's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Shelbyville Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.

Northeast suffered a grim 75-51 defeat to Shelbyville Central in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Northeast was down 46-24.
