Softball Recap: Bibb County Choctaws vs. Hillcrest Patriots

Bibb County extended their losing streak to eight on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-8. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hillcrest Patriots. If the Choctaws were looking for revenge after losing 7-2 to the Patriots when the teams met back in February of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Hillcrest, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-1. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 15-23-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

For Hillcrest's part, not much got past Sadie Frederick, who gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks to keep Bibb County off the board. Frederick has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Hillcrest saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Mennen, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Nakayla Collins also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Bibb County will face off against West Blocton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The game will give the Choctaws their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Hillcrest, they will head out to face off against American Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
