Basketball Recap: Tyler Chelew's Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. Vincent De Paul over Buhach Colony

St. Vincent de Paul's tournament run continued when they took on Buhach Colony on Saturday. The St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs took a 62-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Buhach Colony Thunder.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyler Chelew, who posted eight points along with five boards and four steals. Chelew continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Jack Ellis was another key player, going 5 for 10 on his way to 12 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, St. Vincent de Paul smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Buhach Colony's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carter Chapman, who shot 4-for-6 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. The game was Chapman's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Cortez, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks.

St. Vincent de Paul's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Buhach Colony, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Vincent de Paul will venture away from home to take on Middletown at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Buhach Colony, they will head out to challenge El Dorado at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Buhach Colony is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.5 points per game this season.
