Preview: East Central Hornets vs. New Braunfels Unicorns
After two games on the road, East Central is heading back home. They will take on the New Braunfels Unicorns at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
East Central suffered their biggest defeat since November 21, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a tough 49-29 loss at the hands of Judson. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points East Central has scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from A'maya Holton, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of A'nya Williams, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, New Braunfels' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Steele on the road and fell 80-36. While losing is never fun, New Braunfels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 477th, while Steele is ranked 69th).
East Central's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-9. As for New Braunfels, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 12-16.
East Central strolled past New Braunfels in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 59-45. Does East Central have another victory up their sleeve, or will New Braunfels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
