Softball Game Preview: Saluda Tigers vs. Westwood Redhawks

The Saluda Tigers will challenge the Westwood Redhawks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Saluda will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Saluda's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Strom Thurmond as Saluda made off with an 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Miller Martin was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ava Martin was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-3. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Amy Sorcia, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Saluda was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Westwood was a bit more limited in their match on Tuesday. They fell just short of Providence Athletic Club by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Redhawks have suffered since March 11, 2024.

Griffin Ella made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Saluda pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Westwood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
