Basketball Recap: Union Grove Christian Takes Down Faith Christian in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Union Grove Christian had no problem doing just that on Friday. Everything went their way against the Faith Christian Eagles as they made off with a 47-26 win. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 294th, while the Eagles are ranked 592nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Union Grove Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sara Long, who posted six points along with six assists and five boards. What's more, Long also posted a 75% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madi Jeffreys, who had eight points and eight rebounds.

Union Grove Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Union Grove Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.0 points over those games. As for Faith Christian, they dropped their record down to 3-16 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Union Grove Christian will have a chance to go back-to-back against Faith Christian: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
