Baseball Recap: Halifax County Drops Highest Score of Season Against Chatham

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Halifax County). They were the clear victors by a 21-0 margin over the Chatham Cavaliers on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Comets sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.

Logan Clark made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carter Thomasson, who went 5-for-6 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaharie Edmonds, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Halifax County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in four consecutive matchups.

Halifax County pushed their record up to 12-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Chatham, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.

Coming up, Halifax County will welcome George Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Comets are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Chatham, they will head out to square off against William Campbell at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
