Basketball Game Preview: Anthony Wayne Generals vs. Clay Eagles

The Anthony Wayne Generals will head out on the road to face off against the Clay Eagles at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Anthony Wayne knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 contests -- so hopefully Clay likes a good challenge.

Anthony Wayne is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Ohio's top teams: Mason, who was ranked seventh at the time (Anthony Wayne was ranked fourth). Anthony Wayne strolled past Mason with points to spare on Sunday, taking the game 61-47.

Anthony Wayne's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Elise Bender, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 boards, and Brooke Bender, who went 6 for 12 en route to 19 points and four steals. Elise's evening made it 12 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Pike, who posted seven points and five rebounds.

Anthony Wayne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Clay lost 50-27 to Southview on Thursday.

Anthony Wayne is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 39.8 points. As for Clay, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Anthony Wayne against Clay in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the team secured an 80-21 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Anthony Wayne since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
