Softball Recap: Baldwin Starts Season with Win Against King Kekaulike

Baldwin gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They came out on top against the King Kekaulike Na Ali'i by a score of 11-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Hope Batulayan-Cadorna made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Batulayan-Cadorna was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Baldwin let Briana Maio-Silva (Ana) and Bailey Nagasako (Bailey) run wild. Maio-Silva (Ana) went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and two RBI, while Nagasako (Bailey) went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Nakamura (Cami), who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Baldwin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as King Kekaulike only posted an OBP of .294.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Baldwin will challenge Maui at 4:00 p.m. on March 12th. As for King Kekaulike, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Lahainaluna at 10:00 a.m. on March 15th.
