Preview: Perry Hall Gators vs. Mergenthaler Vo-Tech Mustangs
Perry Hall is on a 12-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Mergenthaler Vo-Tech is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Perry Hall Gators will take on the Mergenthaler Vo-Tech Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Perry Hall knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Mergenthaler Vo-Tech likes a good challenge.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Perry Hall had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took down Leonardtown 34-20.
Perry Hall's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Da'Shaun Conway led the charge by throwing for 128 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Jacob Wagner, who rushed for 127 yards on only 12 carries.
Another reason for the win was Perry Hall's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In that department, Noah Williams was the leader with two sacks.
Meanwhile, Mergenthaler Vo-Tech can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. Everything went their way against Suitland as Mergenthaler Vo-Tech made off with a 27-6 win.
Their wins bumped Perry Hall to 12-0 and Mergenthaler Vo-Tech to 11-1.
Perry Hall won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, slipping by Mergenthaler Vo-Tech 7-6. Will Perry Hall repeat their success, or does Mergenthaler Vo-Tech have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
