Baseball Recap: Franklin Academy Takes a Loss

Franklin Academy extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-7-1 in the process. They lost 7-0 to the Canton Golden Bears. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Huskies were not able to get on the board.

Franklin Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Payne, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Canton, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Canton's side, Zadok Roiger made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. Roiger has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Charlie Todd was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Mathew Bradish-Hayes was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

Coming up, Franklin Academy will take on Gouverneur at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Huskies are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a four-game losing streak. Canton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
