Softball Game Preview: Mt. Carmel Sundevils vs. Valhalla Norsemen

The Mt. Carmel Sundevils will face off against the Valhalla Norsemen at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Mt. Carmel will be strutting in after a win while Valhalla will be coming in after a defeat.

Mt. Carmel took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over Valley Center. The Sundevils haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Chloe Millard was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaili Martha, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Madie Codner was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Mt. Carmel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Valhalla was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They fell 3-0 to Bonita Vista.

Valhalla's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Mt. Carmel, their record is now 4-6.

Mt. Carmel beat Valhalla 7-3 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Mt. Carmel repeat their success, or does Valhalla has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
