Baseball Recap: Gary West Side Comes Up Short

Gary West Side extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-6. They lost 16-6 to the Bowman Academy Eagles. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Bowman Academy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Bowman Academy's part, Alex Woods was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Woods is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. David Braboy was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gary West Side will challenge Calumet New Tech at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bowman Academy, they will square off against 21st Century Charter at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
