Basketball Recap: North Decatur Takes a Loss

North Decatur was the 60-31 winner over Morristown when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The North Decatur Chargers fell to the Morristown Yellow Jackets 46-41. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Chargers came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 231st).

When it comes to explaining why North Decatur lost on Tuesday, don't look at Madi Allen. Despite the final result, she went 11 for 18 on her way to 26 points. That was a full 63.4% of North Decatur's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Sarah Moeller also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Morristown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayla Keithley led the charge by putting up six points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists. The dominant performance also gave Keithley a new career-high in blocks (six). Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Sanders, who put up 14 points along with six boards and three steals.

North Decatur's record now sits at 10-6. As for Morristown, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season.

North Decatur will challenge Southwestern at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Decatur is facing Southwestern at the right time seeing as Southwestern is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Morristown, it'll be a Battle of the Bugs the Morristown Yellow Jackets challenge the Beech Grove Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
