Baseball Recap: Seven Straight Road Wins for Escondido Charter

While Escondido Charter put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Calvin Christian. The Tigers put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 22-0 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Sam Romero made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Curtis Williams and Silas Telfer did most of the damage at the plate: Williams got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Telfer went 1-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Williams has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Seavello, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one double.

Escondido Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .551. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Escondido Charter pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Calvin Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Escondido Charter will square off against Orange Glen at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Calvin Christian, they will face off against Foothills Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last four games the Knights have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
