Baseball Recap: Hermantown's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Hermantown waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the North Branch Vikings by a score of 6-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Hawks also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

River Freeman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 15 Ks. Hermantown is 2-1 when Freeman allows three or fewer earned runs, but 5-6-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Cam Lukovsky was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan McCubbin, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The win got Hermantown back to even at 7-7-1. As for North Branch, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.

Hermantown has already played their next matchup (against Marshall), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for North Branch, they will venture away from home to square off against Monticello at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Magic's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
